Into the Woods Post 1

As I viewed the theatrical In to the Woods I must say it was very entertaining.  I highly enjoyed watching the play come together with all the different fairy tale characters.  In the song “One Midnight Gone” there were many different proverbs that were sung.  One of which was “Opportunity in not a lengthy visitor”.  As I reflect on the meaning of that and how it applied the show it takes me back to the baker and his wife as they were trying to acquire the four things that the wicked witch had advised them to get.  The baker came in contact with jack who had the cow whose skin was fair and white.  He need the cow and got the cow from jack but then later lost the cow because someone else saw an opportunity to get so they took it.  Opportunity does not stay.  It is more for the taking and if you do not take it when it knocks you will lose it. 

Example; at work there was a position for a new supervisor that had opened up.  I chose to apply and what to see if I made the cut.  I did and received my first interview.  As I went to my interview I was pretty nervous but once I got in there I calmed down quite a bite and had good feelings when I left.  A few days later I received an email stating that I had not made it past the first round of interviews.  I was pretty bummed out so I went and spoke with the person who had administered the interview and said “what did I do wrong”.  She told me that I had a really good interview and she was very pleased with me however, I did not toot my own horn.  I did not understand what she meant by that and she said well when you are in a competition with others for a management spot you need to be boastful and conceded.  It was my time to shine and show out and I had not done that.  She knew I had management experience but want to hear from me how good I was.  In the end my opportunity came and went because I did not take advantage of it while it was there and show off and up talk myself.  That was a lesson learned well that I will never forget and will always implement when I applying for jobs or anything else in life
