Baroque Blog

Is our society more Baroque or more Renaissance??  I really think it depends on who you ask how they feel about society as a whole.  I believe that this question could be answered in both ways.  I will defend that I think society today is more of a Renaissance era.  As we know Renaissance means “re-birth” , that can mean in many different ways.  As a rebirth in the Renaissance period people were not concerned with wealth and fame.  There no boundaries to how far you could go.  You were empowered by humanistic ways to learn more and expand on your learning.  As we reflect on society today as a whole there have been massive amounts of Renaissance tendencies manifesting themselves everywhere.  We now live in a society that is so diverse and has come so far with exploration.  A few examples: gay and lesbian rights have been brought to the fore front.  Many states are now allowing marriage of same sex to take place and more and more people are okay with it. Medical innovation:  you go to any other countries and they are lacking in the medical field, mostly due to money and knowledge.  In our country most people have had the opportunity to receive a good education and move on to further their education to make innovation possible.  You also have the Renaissance Man.  In the days of the Renaissance period it was Shakespear, a good example today would be Justin Timberlake.  He sings, dances, acts, writes and produces because he is one of many talents.  What about Arnold Schwertsenager?  He too was a man of many faces and abilities.  Renaissance is a time of innovation and newness.  It is a time of growth and development and in our society today that is what we do.  We have learned and grown to be accepting and find new solutions
